ICEM Global Framework Agreement with Norske Skog
The ICEM and Norske Skogindstrier ASA signed a Global Agreement in June 2002, making the Nordic pulp and paper producer the second Norwegian company to enter into a global standards agreement with ICEM. It was signed with Norwegian Fellesforbundet. It sets out adherence to basic standards of employment, ranging from freedom of association and right to collective bargaining to an employee's right to a safe and healthy work environment to employment, as a rule, based on permanent employment with temporary and part-time workers receiving the same relative terms and conditions as full-time workers. It contains an annual review process.

At its bi-annual Congress last month, ICEM affiliate Paper & Printing Federation of Thailand (PPFT) elected Amnuay Iemraksa as President of the 6,000-member union. She is the strong and energetic local branch leader at a Kimberly Clark mill in Pathumtahni and is the first woman to lead PPFT, which has members in many paper and paper-related companies across Thailand.

The ICEM, together with its Norwegian paperworkers’ union affiliate, Fellesforbundet, conducted its annual Norske Skog Global Framework Agreement review in Oslo on 21 May. The parties have been signatory to a Global Framework Agreement since June 2002, and the agreement was extended on 21 May for another two-year period.
