ICEM Global Framework Agreement with AngloGold

The ICEM and AngloGold signed a Global Agreement in Johannesburg in September 2002 following the UN’s World Summit in South Africa. AngloGold thus became the first African-based multinational to sign such an agreement. It was signed in concert with South African affiliate National Union of Mineworkers. AngloGold maintains mining operations in Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Mali, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, the US and Zimbabwe.

The promotion and respect for human and trade union rights, health and safety, sound environmental practices and the promotion of good relationships with local mine communities are at the heart of the agreement. It too has language calling on the parties to meet as often as necessary, but at least annually.
